To any new members: Welcome!

Hey y'all! I'm Annie, a Washington raised skier and climber. I grew up resort skiing in the Inland Northwest but have been backcountry skiing/mountaineering in the Cascades for the past few seasons. I love a good volcano ski - Baker is my favorite!

I'll be based out of Spokane for the winter and am planning to be pretty mobile with my truck. I'd love to get to know some of the backcountry zones near the mountains I grew up skiing in the Panhandle. I also have dreams of exploring the Cabinets and the Wallowas if I can find some folks to go with me. Planning to hit Red/Whitewater/Fernie in February too.

I'm super psyched on finding skiers and climbers to hang with in the area - please feel free to shoot me a message. I'd love to link up!

Hello Everyone!
I have been a nonactive member for awhile now but just rediscovered this forum searching for DIY sled rack examples. What an awesome site! Just wanted to say hi and thanks to the crew that put this together.
We ride with a crew of 3 sometimes 4 out of Spokane and we have dabbled in the b/c for a few years in the silver valley (burke/St. Regis Basin) , Roman nose and Trestle Creek near Hope. We are always looking for new zones and looking forward to sharing and viewing some trip reports this year!
We are all avy trained, avy geared with sleds. If you have a trip planed or want to link up and explore send a message!

Cheers!

Welcome to all the new folks! My buddy Andrew is throwing together a party that may be a good opportunity for you to come out, meet some folks, and get some turns in. This is probably the best human powered access area around in the panhandle. Look on general page for
(Late) Season Backcountry Kick-off Party

Welcome to Panhandle Backcountry! (You can introduce yourself in this thread!)

PanhandleBackcountry is a community of backcountry skiers and splitboarders in North Idaho, Eastern Washington and Northwestern Montana. Thanks for joining us and please participate in our forums where you can organize tours and events, check trip reports and route information, share snowpack observations and conditions, and talk about or trade your gear locally.

First things first..
Safe travel in the backcountry is of utmost importance:

Before you go make sure your group has the skills, knowledge and training to travel in avalanche terrain. Read the local avalanche advisory and always carry a shovel, probe and transceiver (plus cell phone and airbag). Be sure to check out our “Be Avalanche Aware” section with a full list of local avalanche education courses available and other avalanche safety tips and resources: http://www.panhandlebackcountry.com/safety/

Fill out your profile:

You can do this by clicking on your own username at page header or browsing to: http://www.panhandlebackcountry.com/account/

Upload an avatar and please fill out your profile as completely as possible, especially the "Training and Experience" section! This gives others an understanding of what level of backcountry experience you have. That way one can properly route find for each individual that may be in a group. Don't forget other sections like what gear you're rocking! Many people have questions about gear and if they see what you use, they may have questions as to what your thoughts on the gear is. Profiles can only be viewed by other logged-in members.

Get the weather forecast quickly:

We’ve compiled a list of weather forecasts and resources relevant to backcountry skiing and splitboarding in our area. Browse to http://www.panhandlebackcountry.com/weather/ to view time-lapse webcams, live weather data, SNOTEL reports, forecasts, radars and more. Local and regional avalanche advisories are also included on this page (as well as right on the homepage!)

Share a trip report:

Have you been out lately? Consider sharing your photos, conditions, pit data, beta or story with the rest of the community in the 'Trip Reports' forum. Reports can be as simple as a couple notes on conditions to full epic stories with several photos and video — the more information the better, but anything is helpful! Trip Reports are only viewable to logged in members. Collaborative knowledge can increase all members’ experience in the backcountry!

Connect with tour partners:

The backcountry is better with friends! If you’re looking to get out with others post in the 'Tour Partners' forum and link up with others. The more information you include on the tour or partners you’re seeking the better. It’s also a good idea to include your level of training and experience (and an acknowledgement you have the necessary gear) here if you’re new to the community.

Suggestions:

This community was built by a backcountry skier and splitboarder for our peers: skiers and splitboarders. We value suggestions and input from members and use them to shape the future of Panhandle Backcountry accordingly!

Stickers:

Want a free Panhandle Backcountry sticker to rock on your boards, nalgene or roof box? We have a couple different styles of die cut stickers to share! Send a private message to PowderPanda or me (idsnowghost) with your mailing address, or if local we can make arrangements to meet up. You can also buy stickers directly from our printer here! (we don't set the prices nor get a cut)

Thanks again for joining us! Please feel free introduce yourself to the community in this thread or ask any questions! Welcome!

Just visiting the area for the first time next week, and hoping there will be enough snow to get out backcountry. We mostly ski in the Seattle area. thanks for this awesome website!

Found the site looking for touring routes in the Selkirks, looks like a great resource and community, hoping to find some fun touring this winter.

Hello all, I live in the Priest river/lake area and ride Schweitzer inbounds and out. I have two very nice Yamaha VK Pro Snowmobiles and generally Ride the Selkirks. I will be happy to bring anyone along for a day trip if they like. You must be safe and some experience on a sled. I will be at Schweitzer in the AM 12/20/21 if you want to meet up for a few turns. Waiting for snow levels to be deeper with a better base but will be going soon for sure. Have fun out there!!!

Visiting my girlfriends family who are long time sandpoint natives for the week. We line in slc. I brought all my touring gear and was hoping to just get some fitness vert up near Schweitzer! Been browsing for the last few weeks and blown away by the tight nit community here

Hey! I am a longtime backcountry skiier based out of Tahoe, will be in the Sandpoint area for around two weeks around New Years. Looking forward to exploring some of the sidecountry and Schweitzer as well as hopefully getting in some human-powered days. Really appreciate the local community having this resource available. Happy to provide anyone some beta for Tahoe if visiting there.

Hello, I just moved back to Sandpoint and need some ski/touring/sled partners. I've been in the backcountry and ski patrolled for years in tahoe and elsewhere, but am new to these mountains so any local knowledge is helpful. I've rode snowmobiles with patrol for years but this is the first winter having my own so finding fellow sled skiers would be rad. I also will be at Schweitzer a lot, and planning some trips with the ikon pass, so hit me up if you like to travel. Oh and I'm free every day until mid march when I start work again, so hit me up and let's have some fun.

New to the area, learned to love touring over a few seasons in Bellingham after school at Western. Now working as a Wilderness Ranger in the summers in Rocky Mountain National Park and spending the off seasons in Spokane. Great to have a grassroots community like this.
