To any new members: Welcome!

Heyo,

Finally figured out why I can't acess trip reports, and it's because I haven't posted anything haha!

Kinda just been skiing what I can access for the last couple years, mostly Sherman and the St. Joe Divide (though access is exhausting), as well as summer stuff in GNP. Gotta love the occasional powder stashs on Mica Peak too, if you know where to look. Have some hopes this year to checkout what Metaline has to offer (Abercrombie/Hall/Moly), skiing the Crags in Kootenay, skiing Willow and Ward, and then spring missions in the Southern Cabinets, like Rock and St. Paul, but we'll see what happens. Much more of a big-picture skier instead of goal-oriented, as I tend to build to big of expectations and plans, but would love to explore what I can w/o a sled.

On Kore 105s with ATK FR and Technica Zero G, always sitting on the fence between technical tour and freeride. Once I accept the fact that I'm not Sammy Carlson or Sam Kuch, I'll accept the lighter setup as cannon.

I am looking forward to utlilizing this site more, and connecting with the local community more, as well as helping others new to the area/sport get connected.

Couple Ideas To Share:
-Have a vision to produce a INW ski fill called "What I Kan." It'd be with the idea of skiing what/where you can in Spokane, and sometimes being suprised by what you can do in area. You don't have to live in Jackson to rip. Would love to see it go somewhere, and be a gift to the local ski community.
-Would love to organize a St. Joe Divide Traverse (Probably Ross Gulch to Phillips Draw, Round 22mi). Will probably post about it later this fall, some may be down for rewardless pain and a transition every mile.

Thanks for posting, Logan! Welcome to the community!

I always wonder who else is putting tracks on Mica! Those 5k peaks around Spokane offer pretty good turns (mind some route finding/brush) for a few months of the Winter. Even lowly Antoine has good skiing down to Trent after a line of storms roll through town. I've got plenty of beta for skiing in town if you need anything for your project.

St Joe Divide Traverse sounds fun in the Spring.

Both your ideas sound rad. I know @Patrick B have been trying to think of ways to get more of the community involved in group activities. Especially for the new arrivals who have not had an opportunity to get locked in with other skiers/riders. Downside of having noone else in your tracks is folks are hard to come by. I have been putting together a "book" of sorts of lines around here, was not sure what to do with it, but would be happy to contribute to the ski fill.

Hey all - I’m new to the area! I’m actively working my way to Sandpoint from Virginia for the winter. I’m an excellent resort rider currently, and am looking to gain experience in the backcountry this season. Last season I invested in a complete backcountry kit, but failed at finding riding partners so my tours were all solo and such low risk that they were mostly just good practice transitioning. In terms of riding - I like everything from low angle glades to steep technical stuff. Why would you want me in your riding group?
  • I’m realistic about my backcountry experience, so I don’t mind being a follower in terms of group dynamics.
  • I’m single with no kids, so I won’t bail on scheduled tours.
  • Lots of availability! Currently waiting on the schedule but it’s looking like I’ll only work 2-3 days a week.
  • I worked on a farm this past summer and got very efficient with a shovel.
I’ll be in the area starting November 5th. Check me out below! If you’re interested, please feel free to reach out!

Welcome to the Panhandle!

Howdy Inland Northwest folks! My name is Kevin and I have lived in Spokane for 5 years now. I have mainly skied resort for most of my life but just got a backcountry setup last winter and am excited to get to know the wonderful backcountry that surrounds us.

I am AIARE 1 certified so I have much to learn about avi safety still but hopefully I can get that experience in the field in our neighborhood.

Cant wait to get out there and get to know this community!

Looking to hit the backcountry hard this year! I finally got all my proper gear and a AVY course under my belt. Looking for partners who have weekends free. I also don't usually work during the week when it snows heavy in town. Open to long days, short jaunts, and everything in between! Thanks Mike for making this awesome website!

Sweet website and kudos to all who have contributed. I’m in the Spokane area but looking to explore what Idaho has to offer.
I’ve heard good things about the Training Grounds, Rabbit Gulch, and West Willow - anyone skied any of these yet this year? If so would love to hear how it was. TIA!

Hey all,

Was turned obto this site by a guide I listened to present the other night. This site looks like a great resource and am excited to really utilize it. I am relatively new to the area and am interested in exploring the mountains (safely) around the area. Longtime sledder growing up in the missions of Montana with a bunch of informal experience in the backcounty but turning towards more human powered ways of accessing cool terrain and turns. Looking forward to a more formal education on traveling through the mountains and getting out there!
